Long-Time Lincoln Township Resident Succumbs at Age of 74
Mrs. John E. Addy, well known Lincoln township resident, died at her home southwest of Winterset Saturday, April 5th, at the age of 74 years. Mrs. Addy had been in poor health for several months, and her husband has been afflicted for the last four weeks with three strokes of paralysis.
Mrs. Addy was the former Eliza Ellen McDonald. She, a daughter of Cyrus B. and Mary McDonald, was born in Douglas township, Dec. 5, 1866. Her girlhood days were spent in Jefferson township.
On Sept. 3, 1890 she was married to John E. Addy, and after living in Webster, Douglas and Madison townships, they moved to their present home, where they had lived for the past 32 years, with the exception of two years spent in Winterset.
Last September 3rd, Mr. and Mrs. Addy celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. Mrs. Addy is survived by her husband, and their three daughters, Mrs. John Spence, Mrs. John McKee and Mrs. Carl Wagner, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She also leaves seven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Margaret Reed of Summerfield, Kan., Burt McDonald of Phoenix, Ariz., Joe McDonald of Colorado, Harry McDonald of Stuart, Fletcher McDonald, Mrs. Elsie Alexander and Mrs. Belle Tyre of Winterset. Two sisters, Nancy and Mary Katheryn preceded her in death.
Mrs. Addy has been a member of the local United Presbyterian church for the past thirty-two years, and her pastor, the Rev. C. E. Courtney conducted her funeral services at the church Monday, April 7 at 2 p.m., and burial was made in the McDonald cemetery in Jefferson township.
