Carl Francis Batta, 77, of Lafayette, died at 5:53 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Home Hospital. Born on July 19, 1932, in Tippecanoe County, he was the son of the late Anthony and Batta Elizabeth Halsema Batta.

He attended Battle Ground High School. He married Marlene Marlow on Oct. 1, 1955, in Battle Ground. She survives.
Mr. Batta worked as a machinist at Ross Gear for 32 1/2 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement he was a deliveryman with Wells-Yeager-Best.

He was a parishioner at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where he was an usher and member of Senior Citizens.

An Army veteran, he served from January 1952 to December 1954, during the Korean War, was a life member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion, Eagles Lodge, Eagles REACT, Battle Ground Volunteer Fire Department, for 10 years, a 25-year member of Battle Ground Lions Club and a past member of Moose.

He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, boat rides, traveling and being with his family.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Bob Batta (wife: Jennie) of Lafayette; four daughters, Diane Chaney (husband: Bob) of Greenfield, Susan Wood (husband: Robert), Connie Holifield and Lisa Gehab (husband: Andy), all of Lafayette; a sister, Mildred Pugh and one brother, Lawrence Batta (wife: Janette), both of Lafayette. He is survived by 9 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
