Eaton services are held

Funeral services for Chickasaw County Supervisor Floyd Calvin Eaton, 59, of Woodland were held Monday, April 15, at Amity Baptist Church.

Eaton, who was serving his first term as County Supervisor from District 5, died unexpectedly on Saturday from a heart attack. His sudden death and funeral on Monday shocked and saddened Chickasaw County.

The Chickasaw County Courthouse in Houston was closed by the board on Monday in honor of Eaton. In addition, no classes were held at Woodland School on Monday as a tribute to the man who had been on the County Board of Education for a number of years.

Eaton, who was retired from a West Point industrial firm, had served on the board from 1967 through 1973, representing the Woodland area.

Supt. Of Education Raymond Paden said the school was closed in his honor on Monday because of the "fine work and support Mr. Eaton gave the school over the years."

Paden said the county schools had no bigger supporter than Eaton, praising him for his work on the part of education for everyone in the county. Paden said, "We lost a friend and a worker in Floyd Eaton."

Eaton's district covered most of the southern portion of Chickasaw County and stretched into Houston. Local officials said the were saddened by his sudden death and that all of the county had lost a "dedicated and honest man."

A special election is expected to be called this year to replace Eaton on the board.
