KANSAS THE ONLY PLACE
Letter From Tennessee Shows Bad Conditions There
"Mr. R. P. Dodds of this city, yesterday received a letter from his brother, William Dodds, a prominent merchant at Coffee Landing, Tenn., which serves to illustrate that Kansas is blessed of heaven this year. Mr. Dodds writes that everything down there is drowned out. The wheat stand was beautiful, but farmers could not save it. The corn looks fine, but the Tennessee river will take it. It has been raining for forty days. Rivers and tributaries are out of their banks. These has not been a chance to get ten days work in the field in the last two months. Mr. Dodds says that It is the gloomiest prospect he has ever seen in that section."

WILLIAM M. DODDS DEAD Only Brother of R. P. Dodds Died Suddenly in Tennessee. R. P. Dodds yesterday received a telegram saying that his only brother, Wm. M. Dodds, died Monday evening at his home near Coffee Landing, Tenn. Wm. Dodds was 74 years of age and was quite well known in this city, as he visited his brother here some years ago. He had lived in Tennessee for many years and owned a fine plantation. The news of his death was a great surprise to Mr. Dodds here, and to his friends. It is thought that he died from neuralgia of the heart. But a few days ago a letter from him said that his health was good.
