Alta Amelia Manahan, age 93, of Owosso, MI passed away Thursday, November 26, 2009 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility, Corunna, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday November 30, 2009 at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso. Visitation will be held on Saturday November 28, 2009 from 6-8 PM and Sunday November 29, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday December 2, 2009 at Haines Falls Cemetery Haines Falls, NY.
Alta was born in Haines Falls, New York on June 28, 1916, the daughter of Arthur E. and Nellie C. (Van Vlierden) Ayers.
Alta married Russel Bates, he passed away in 1961. She then married Raymond Manahan, he passed away in 1969. Alta resided most of her life in Owosso since 1944.
Alta and her husband were the owners of Manahan Tax Service and Manahan Real Estate both of Owosso. She received her Real Estate License after attending the University of Michigan. Alta was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Owosso where she was very active. She was also a member of ABWA, United Methodist Women, past president of the Owosso Camera Club and the local travel club.
She is survived by her son Barry D. Bates of Owosso, MI, daughter Barbara Ann and Frank Tew of Owosso, MI. Alta is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Alta was preceded in death her husbands, son Bruce Bates and a brother Aubrey (Jake) Ayers.
