Aunt Jane Proctor Passes Away
Aunt Jane Proctor of Brighton died Monday at the age of 72. The funeral was held Tuesday at the M. E. church there and the body laid to rest in the Brighton cemetery.
She is a sister of Sam Scroggins of Morrisville, Wes Scroggins of Wishart, Mrs. Lue Tummons and Mrs. J. A. Wallis of Pleasant Hope.
She was married first to Asa Fender and later to James Proctor, both of whom have gone on before her. Mr. Proctor's death occurred about two years ago.

Mrs. Jane Proctor was born May 2, 1852, and died January 29, 1923.
She was converted in early life and united with the Methodist church at this place and ever lived a faithful Christian.
She was married to Asa J. Fender December 4, 1870. They never had any children of their own. But took a little orphan boy, W. A. Rush, and raised him. She was a mother to him. Her first husband died April 7, 1903. She was married again September 27 of the same year to James Proctor who died December 28, 1920.
A short time before the death of her first husband they took another child, a little girl, Fae McGuire. She raised her with whom she made her home. We think there will be stars in her crown for the many good deeds she has done here while on earth. Besides all this she cared for her invalid mother for years. In her younger days if any poor person needed help she was always willing to help them.
She had been failing in health for more than three years. Her sickness was short. She was taken sick Friday and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus Monday.
She leaves two brothers, W. A. Scroggins of Brighton, and S. E. Scroggins of Morrisville; two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Tummons of Brighton and Mrs. J. A. Wallis of Pleasant Hope; W. A. Rush, the boy she raised came from Kansas and attended her funeral.
Aunt Jane as she was known by everybody will be missed but she still lives in the lives of those who knew her.
Her funeral was preached by the Rev. W. H. Winston of Springfield in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and friends after which the body was placed in the Brighton cemetery there to await the final judgement.
Weep not for me, my dear ones,
For my troubles here below;
Are now forever ended,
And I shall weep no more.
Death was very merciful,
It ended all my pain;
And Oh, my friends and loved ones,
We soon shall meet again.

She married first, Asa Jerome Fender on December 4, 1871 in Polk County. After his death, she married his first cousin, James Proctor on September 27, 1903 in Greene County, Missouri.
Ethel Fay McGuire, the daughter of Yance McGuire and Clara [Buckle] McGuire King, after the death of her mother ask Aunt Jane Fender if she could come and live with her one Sunday morning after church. Of course, the answer was yes so she was taken in by Aunt Jane and Uncle Asa and lived with them until the death of Asa Fender. When Aunt Jane married Jim Proctor, she lived with them until she married, then she and her husband, Dewey Fortner, continued living with the Proctors for about a year.
