According to local legend, Patsy's brother Dr. Roy Gene Hughes considered her the "black sheep" of the family and had the Hughes family mausoleum sealed, refusing to allow his sister to be placed inside.

She is buried in front of the Hughes family mausoleum. Her friends reportedly took up a collection to pay for her grave marker.
