AGED RESIDENT OF NO. MANCHESTER DEAD
Alvah H. McBride, Long an Invalid, Passes Away at the Age of 91 Years

North Manchester, Ind., Jan. 2 - Alvah H. McBride, aged father of Mrs. H.B. Little, died at 9:10 o'clock Saturday night at the Little home, 505 Sycamore street, after being confined to his bed for five weeks. Mr. McBride had been nearly helpless during most of the last year, being unable to walk, and for several years had been in declining health. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.at the H. B. Little home, and burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. J. W. Christie, pastor of the Presbyterian church, Van Wert, Ohio.

Mr. McBride was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, December 26, 1825, and passed out of this life at the age of 91 years and 4 days. A part of his boyhood was spent in Bellefontaine, Ohio where he learned the blacksmith trade. Later he came to Warsaw, Ind., where he engaged in the blacksmithing business as a partner of the late Elijah Hays.

On February 28, 1850, he was married to Orrel Andrews. Five children were born to the union, two of whom are surviving— Mrs. H. B. Little, of North Manchester, and Albert E. McBride of Van Wert, Ohio.

A daughter, Harriet, died at the age of eight months, and a son, William, was five years old at death. Another daughter. Mrs. Emma Laidlaw, wife of Walter Laidlaw. formerly of this city, died December 24, 1915, and was buried here the day after Mr. McBride's ninetieth birthday anniversary. A foster daughter, Mrs. Garrett, lives at Los Angeles, Cal.

Mr. McBride had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Little, since August, 1909, when he came here with Mrs. McBride from Larwill, because of his wife's failing health. They had lived in Larwill for about forty years, having moved to Whitley county in 1868. Mrs. McBride's health declined rapidly and her death occurred January 18, 1910. One sister of Mr. McBride is still living. She is Mrs. Mary Adams, aged 83, living north of Pierceton. There are nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren living.

Mr. McBride was a Presbyterian, having united with that church at the age of 19, and he was a devoted Christian and adherent to the principles of his church. His motto was the Golden Rule. By its tenets he lived his earthly time and was ready to answer the Master's call.
