Doyle Jesse "Wild Bill" Thomas of Brazoria was born on September 30, 1920, in Oletha, Texas, and went home to be with Jesus on Monday, January 26, 2009, in Sweeny at 88 years of age. Bill was a decorated Army veteran of WW II. He attained the rank of staff sargent and received the EAME Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars; American Defense Service Medal; and the Bronze Star Medal. Bill was one of the soldiers who participated in the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach. Survivors include his son, Doyle Wayne Thomas; daughter, Janice Carol Thomas; sister, Elyner M. Thomas of Dallas; special friends, Minnie Martinez and family, and Marcy Buchanan and family, all of Brazoria; four grandchildren; and many other friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew E. and Laura L. Williams Thomas; two brothers; two sisters; and special friend, Ruth Erskine. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2009, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home in Brazoria. Graveside funeral services will on Monday, February 2, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Willowhole Cemetery in North Zulch, Texas. "Wild Bill" was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker Funeral Home in Brazoria.
