The funeral for Mitchell Devone Maxwell Jr., affectionately known as "DJ," will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Power House of Faith, 1508 Louisiana Ave.,Waycross. Elder Kenneth A. Kirksey Sr., pastor, is the eulogist. Burial will take place in the Oakland Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are his classmates and basketball team members of the Ware Magnet School and they are asked to assemble at the church at 1:45 p.m. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. in the chapel of Rainge Memorial Funeral Home, Blackshear.

"DJ" was born March 2, 1998 in Waycross, to Felecia Thomas and Mitchell Devone Maxwell Sr. He was a sixth grade honor student at Ware Magnet School. He was a member of Power House of Faith and frequently visited St. Peters Baptist Church. DJ enjoyed football, basketball, video games, fishing, school and being with family. He departed this life Friday (Nov. 20, 2009) at Satilla Regional Medical Center.

Preceding him in death were his Papa Hosea Hill Sr., and his aunt, Cathy Johnson. Those left to cherish his memories are his mother, Felecia Thomas; father, Mitchell Devone Maxwell Sr. (Tonya); sisters, RicKea Thomas, Raven Thomas, Nijay Maxwell and Endia Maxwell; brothers, Jhemari, Emogie, Mashard, Monquez and Mekhi Maxwell; grandmothers, Eulcathia Harris and Sandra Hill; grandfather, Cecil Nesmith Sr.; aunts, NaKisha Nesmith, a special aunt, Ayona Hill; uncles, Hosea Hill Jr., Charles Johnson, Kenneth Nesmith, Zevrick Lee, Cecil Nesmith Jr. and Cleve Moore; a special cousin, Richada Richardson; a host of additional cousins, great aunts, additional relatives and sorrowing friends.

Rainge Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 505 Ware St., Blackshear, is in charge of the service.
