Opal M. Kinghorn

South Ogden - Opal Marie Mock Kinghorn, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on a beautiful spring evening at her home Sunday, April 30, 2006, surrounded by her family.

Opal was born on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1921, to Roy and Nora Headley Mock on a farm outside of Columbus, Kansas. She was the third of nine children. Opal attended grade school in a small country school house and graduated from Cherokee County High School in Columbus.

Opal married Vern Kinghorn on February 25, 1950, in Ogden and they raised three children together, Colleen, Jim, and Kenny.

She was a seamstress and later an inspector for Utah Tailoring Mills in Ogden for many years. She also made beautiful clothing for herself and family as well as doing alterations for others. She also loved to crochet, do needlework for herself and as gifts. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker and anyone stopping by was always welcome to sit down for a meal. Opal and Vern loved to travel and took many trips through the years with their children and later on with just the two of them.

Opal is survived by her loving husband, Vern; daughter Colleen (Jerry) Johnson; sons Jim and Kenny (Janet) Kinghorn; grandchildren Suzanne, Michael (Keri), Robby (Chrystal), Mindy, Jeffery, Brian and Stephanie; great-grandsons Cody, Chase and a third great-grandson to be born in August; sisters Virginia Diles and Kathy (Darrell) Bower; and brother Marvin (LaDonna) Mock and Ralph (Sharon) Mock and many nieces and nephews.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Edith and Edna and two brothers Leroy and Cecil, and one daughter-in-law Sandy.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Utah, especially Maggie, Andrea, Kim, Heather, Melissa, and Jeanette, for their excellent care of Opal the last 13 months of her life.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Pastor Hank Green of Washington Heights Baptist Church officiating.

Friends and family may gather to say their goodbyes at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday Noon to 12:45 p.m.
