Memorial services for Lt. Com. Vern Mamie Snyman, 34, of Virginia Beach, Va., who died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 1979 in an AT Intruder jet plane crash, were held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the American Fork Ninth Ward Chapel. He was a former resident of American Fork.

He was born Jan. 14, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Tex., a son of Jack and Maxine Boley Snyman. He married Cynthia Beasley in Pensacola, Fla.,on Dec.l9, 1970.

Lt. Commander Snyman received his education in American Fork schools where he was active in sports. He attended Utah State University and BYU, graduating in 1969 with a degree in civil engineering.

He entered the Navy in June, 1969, and completed flight training in April, 1970. He was a naval flight instructor as well as a bombadier-navigator on the A-6 jet plane.
The commander was awarded the Joint Service Commendation, National Defense Medal and Meritorious Service Award.

Survivors include his wife; one son and one daughter, Don and Kay Snyman, both of Virginia Beach; his mother, American Fork; grandmothers, Mrs. Eleanor Hold, San Diego, Calif: Mrs. Anna Black, American Fork, and one sister Mrs. Richard (Cheryl) Brenchley, American Fork.
