Mae Reddish Nye
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Mae Reddish Nye, 77, formerly of Preston and Pocatello, died August 9, 2002, at Heart of the Valley Health Care Center in Corvallis, Ore., of natural causes. She was born February 12, 1925, in Preston, Idaho, to Leo Linford and Elva (Crockett) Reddish.
She married Alvin E. Nye on October 22, 1947, in Bancroft, Idaho. (Their marriage was solemnized on June 22, 1964, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.)
She attended school in Lund, Idaho, and graduated as salutatorian from North Gem High School in 1941; she received an associate degree from Idaho State University, bachelors' degree from Utah State University and a masters' degree from the College of Idaho.
After the couple married they resided in Nyssa, Ore., until the summer of 1948, when they moved to Pocatello, Idaho. In 1961 they moved to Boise, Idaho, and resided there until 1973, when they returned to Pocatello. Pocatello was their home. In 1999, they moved to Corvallis, where they had happily resided since.
Mae had a true love for knowledge and helping people. She selected a career in education, and after teaching spent 27 years as a guidance counselor in the Boise and Pocatello school systems. She had an understanding heart and the ability to help others with the problems they might face; she was multi-talented, but truly loved music, and spent a good deal of time teaching music and as an accompanist.
Her hobbies were rubber stamp art, cooking, baking, playing dominoes and various card games. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin E. Nye of Corvallis, Ore.; a son, Leo Allen Nye of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Elva Mae Hedges of Meridian, Idaho; sister, Lou Dean Moore of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren (all of whom had been greatly blessed by her and loved her dearly). Her parents, a brother, Linford Crockett Reddish and a grandson, Jeffrey Paul Hedges preceded her in death.
Visitation was 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Walnut Street LDS Church, and funeral services were Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Walnut Street Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bishop Craig Cole officiating. Burial and dedication of the grave will be 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, August 14 at Dry Creek Cemetery, Boise, Idaho.
Services are under the direction of McHenry Funeral Home, Corvallis, Ore.
