Joseph was one of three children of Isaac Camp who were born in NY while Isaac learned and worked at the wheelwright trade.

He married Hannah P. Smith in 1829 and they had 8 children.

In 1849 Joseph sold his land and home to his brother George; he, his wife Hannah and their 7 children left Pennsylvania. In July 1849 due to a huge outbreak of cholera in Kane Co., IL, Joseph Camp and three of his children died and were buried there. Exactly where he was buried is not known.
