He was the first of 13 children born to Mary Walter and August Reiter, Sr. At the tender age of 12, Charles was placed in school at Subiaco, Arkansas. He studied to be a priest, but before being ordained, he left the seminary and came back to Muenster, Texas and returned to farming.

He married Catherine Bernauer and was the parents of four children: Charles II, Mary Catherine, Roderick and Giles. Charles held the position of postmaster of Muenster.

Due to Catherine's failing health, the family moved to Kerrville in 1932. There Charles purchased a service station and repair shop.

After Catherine died on March 19, 1941, he married Mary Rosenthal of Kerrville on Feb 16, 1946 and they had a son, Albert Joseph.
The family worked together in the auto related business until Charles death in 1974
