"Funeral services were held Friday, March 28 at Christ Lutheran Church in Egypt, WA, for Emil Christian Kern, local farmer, who died in a Spokane hospital on March 25, 1980. Rev Stanley Williamsen officiated. Mrs Adolphe Reinbold was organist. Casket bearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Interment was at the Egypt Cemetery. Emil Kern was born in Vorstetten, West Germany on March 3, 1897. He married the former Emma Grohs on May 27, 1922 and they immigrated to America in Jan, 1923. They lived with an uncle, William Reinbold, for two years before moving to their own farm at Egypt. In 1972 the Kerns celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They retired from farming about 1973 and moved to Davenport about three years ago. Ill health caused him to live with a daughter in Spokane until his death. He is survived by his wife in Davenport; three daughters, Anna Norton and Ruth Kern, Spokane, and Martha Green, Kittitas, WA; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren."
