CHAPMAN — Frances L. Elder, 87, of Chapman, died Dec 30, 2008, at Chapman Valley Manor. Frances was born daughter of Henry and Anna (Schneider) Bender, Feb. 19, 1921, in Russell County.

She grew up in Waldo, where she was very active in school sports. She married Keith Elder in 1939 and followed him as he taught and coached at Burr Oak, Belleville, Manhattan and Salina. They moved to Salina in 1947. Frances managed the concession stand at the municipal swimming pool from 1951 to 1968. She was a past president of the Salina PTA and was active with the 4-H. She was a member of Grand Avenue Methodist Church and was involved in several church groups. She was a member of Asbury Hospital Auxiliary and delivered Meals On Wheels.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith; sister, Amelia; brothers, Paul, Rudolph, Edward, Herbert and Phillip; and grandson, Eugene Abbott.

Survivors include six children, Darrell and Ann Elder, of Loveland, Colo., Patricia Osterman and Ron, of Junction City, Linda Elder and Dianne Abbott, both of Cheyenne, Wyo., Larry and Margaret Elder, of Parkville, Mo., and Steven and Janie Elder, of Derby; three sisters, Clara Young and Lavina Gray, both of Russell, and Esther Kornmyer, of Kingman; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Grand Avenue Methodist Church, Salina. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.
