Marlene, age 74, of Plain, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday. She was born the daughter of Joseph & Marian (Laubmaier) Bauer. Marlene was married to Anthony "Tony" Gruber, on August 25, 1956, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Plain. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Catholic Church, in Spring Green, as well as a PCCW member. Marlene and Tony started the Monday morning prayer group, at St. John's Church, in 2002. Marlene's first priority in life was her family, her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She also had successful careers at Capital Airlines, the Round Barn Lodge and Restaurant, the Spring Green Restaurant and Arthur's. Marlene enjoyed helping her son-in-law at I-Diehl Tap and meeting new people, while developing lasting friendships. She loved watching and cheering on her favorite teams, the Brewers, the Packers, and especially her grandchildren playing sports. She was their biggest fan and so proud of them. Marlene loved to travel and started during her years at Capital Airlines. Marlene is lovingly survived by her daughters, Mary Jean (Jeff) Lidstone of Minnetonka, MN; Tammy (Emil) Diehl of Plain, WI; her sons, John Gruber of Spring Green,WI, Carl (Rhonda) Gruber of Baraboo, WI; her extended family, Sue (Mike) Corcoran of Madison, WI, Rick (Sandy) and Fred (Tami) Gruber of Spring Green, WI and Greg (Mary) Gruber of Mauston, WI; her grandchildren, who were the loves and meaning to her life, Derrick Lidstone, Chelsea, Andrea and Cody Diehl, Matthew and Taylor Jahn, Carter Gruber, Megan Corcoran, Toni, Ty, Taylor, Tanner and Tienna Gruber, Jeni and Hailey Gruber; her sisters, Donna (Ray, deceased) Gruber of Spring Green, WI, Evelyn (Gerald) Watson of Dodgeville, WI, Betty Ann (Harlan) Meister of Chatham, IL, and Delores (Eugene) Neuheisel of Spring Green, WI; a sister-in-law, Helen Jax of Gotham; a brother-in-law; Bill Bergman of Plain; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; her parents, Marian and Joseph Bauer; her daughter-in-law, Rita Gruber; her granddaughter, Courtney Kessenich Gruber; her sisters, Mary Bauer, Luella (Butch) Haas, Josephine Bauer, and Gerri Bergman. A Mass in Memory of Marlene was held on Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, in Spring Green, with Father Mike Resop officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring Green Community Food Pantry, which she was a supporter of, or scholarship assistance for River Valley, St. Luke and St. John students. The family would like to thank Father Mike, Sister Lynne Marie and Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home for their assistance at this difficult time. Marlene's love for her family has been the inspiration for her life, throughout the years.
