The death of Capt. C. L. Appleby was reported in the Eastport Sentinel very briefly as on 4 sept. 1894 as f/o Eastport and 69 y. Later a writer suggested more details and there may be a large article in the original paper.
"Eastport Sentinel Oct. 31, 1894. Capt. Charles L. Appleby who died at Lubec Sept. 4 last deserved more than the brief mention which appeared in the Sentinel. He was born at Deer Island, N. B. Oct. 31, 182_ . His first wife was Lucy L. Dudley of Pembroke, who died some years since. March __ last he married Mrs. Eliza Bloomfield of Lubec, a sister of his first wife, who survives him. By his first wife he had two sons and two daughters, only one of whom Capt. Henry O. Appleby is living. Capt. Appleby commanded vessels hailing from this port for 30 years or more. He was a member of the Free Masons and was buried with Masonic Honours."
Charles Lemuel was born 1826 son of John Warren Appleby and Mary Haskins.
