Son of Gaston Lequeux and Emiley May Woodcock.
U.S. Air Force, WW II, U.S. Army Air Corps (Ret.). Husband of Martha (Scott) Lequeux.
Maj. Lequeux came to the U.S. when he was seven and spent his childhood in California, working in stables and later managing a Western riding academy. At age 15, he was riding in jackpot shows and rodeos. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941, went into an aviation student program receiving his commission as Second Lieutenant in 1943. With the 15the Air Force, he piloted 50 combat missions out of Southern Italy in 1944, in a B-24 Liberator. While based in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict, he flew 21 combat missions and earned more than 5,000 total flying hours during his career. He retired in 1964 with more than 20 years of active duty.
He and his wife then opened the Windmill House Stables in Mathews, where they boarded horses and trained youngsters in riding and caring for their animals and equipment. Maj. Lequeux was a member of the Apostles Lutheran Church in Gloucester.
During his military service, he was recipient of the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross with Cluster, 7 Air Medals, and the Bronze Star.
In addition to his wife, Martha, he is survived by their five daughters, Jamie Colonna, Martha Kay Lequeux, Scotti Lequeux, Michele Schultz, & Holly Matthews; four daughters from a previous marriage, Rene Boehme of Utah, Marion Huey & Jeanne Lequeux of Washington State, & Connie Gregg of California; grandchildren, James & Erin Tierney, Shane, Sarah, & William Matthews, Nolan Rene Schultz, Lynnae, & Barbara Boehme, Randy & Ginger Gregg, Theodore, Robert, & Michelle Green, and Cindy Stevens.
Interment followed funeral services conducted with full military honors on Wednesday, August 27, 2008.
