Our Great Uncle Lew told me this story some 60 years ago.

It was the time of the flu-Great Grandpa Wetzel was in a bed down stairs and great grandma was in a bedroom upstairs-they had high fevers so they were putting cold compresses on their heads. Great grandpa said I know mother is dead and I will be with her before morning. He did pass away then but one calendar day later then her.

Our great uncle Lew and Granpa Wetzel took the horses and sleigh and went to Glen Ullin to purchase caskets. It was about a 30 mile trip. When they got there caskets were $25.00 @ . They only had money for one casket. The undertaker told them I will trust you for the other one so they came back with 2 caskets. Great Uncle Lew told me when the came over the hill and could see the farm house there was sleighs and saddle horses tied up around the farmstead. The ranchers had heard of the death and came to help them with the funeral Our grandfather laid out his own parents and dressed them for the funeral. They did not embalm then.Years later I was out helping to survey the cemetery. The surveyor did not survey where the Wetzel's are buried. He told me that was the Wetzel cemetery.

They were the first homesteaders in Mercer County (Katherine Wolever Wetzel and William Andrew Wetzel).

The land where the Wetzel cemetery became known as Rose Hill Cemetery. It was the place that my wife, Lenore Abbey Wetzel's grandfather Charles Washington Abbey was buried. My wife's mother, Alice Herman Abbey donated the land and then called it Rose Hill Cemetery, as she owned the land (Alice inherited the land from her father Charles George Herman).

Harry Donald Wetzel (Don) saw that Lenore Abbey Wetzel's grandfather, Charles Washington Abbey, did not have a gravestone. Don fashioned it out of concrete and it is still present today, at the Rosehill Cemetery south of Beulah. Don's parents and some other relatives are buried there. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/80331623
