Walter Lenox, son of Captain Peter Lenox and Margaret Wilkerson Lenox. Walter was the 13th Mayor of Washington DC. He married Rachel Ludlow (sister of NY Speaker of the Legislative Assembly William H. Ludlow) January, 1855. She and their first-born child died July of 1856. Lenox joined the Confederacy and, at Richmond, Va, served as assistant to Robert Ould, C.S.A. Agent of Exchange. In 1863, he returned to the District of Columbia to sort out a deceased sister's affairs. While there, he was warned by his friend, General Winfield Scott, to stop publicly promoting the Confederacy or face arrest. He did not silence himself, and he was imprisoned at Fort McHenry for 20 months until the end of the war. His health was impaired by the confinement, and he never fully recovered,
