The Reverend Frederick J. W. Weltge, 93, Pastor Emeritus of St. John's United Church of Christ in Robinson, Texas, passed away peacefully Friday evening, Nov. 20, 2009, at Arrowhead Ranch in Round Mountain, Texas. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Crofts Funeral Home in Johnson City, Texas, with burial to follow at the Round Mountain Cemetery.

Rev. Weltge was born in Womega, Kan., to the late Rev. Fred W. Weltge and Anna Friedericka (Schleif) Weltge. He attended Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill., and thereafter graduated from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., the alma mater of his father and grandfather, Rev. Fred J. Weltge. He was ordained into ministry by his father and uncle at the Evangelical & Reformed Church in Plum Hill, Ill., on Aug. 10, 1941.

After being commissioned as a chaplain into the U.S. Navy and serving with the 96th Seabees detachment (Construction Battalion) in the South Pacific and China during World War II, he served as minister of churches in Dysart, Lone Tree and Cohnsville, Iowa, St. Jacob, Ill., and St. John's UCC in Robinson, where he served from 1959 to 1985, and continued as Pastor Emeritus. Fred married Ruth Ingrid Quill, of Werner, N.D., on June 22, 1948, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

After retiring in April of 1985, Fred and Ruth moved to Fredericksburg, Texas, where Fred became a member of the Rotary Club, served as Hospice Chaplain for a period of time, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and various other service organizations.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife; sister, Mrs. James (Olga) Canter, of Searcy, Ark.; and brother, Rev Edwin Weltge, of Nashville, Ill.

Rev. Weltge is survived by a son, Dr. Arlo Weltge and his wife, Dr. Janet Macheledt, of Houston; daughter, Ingrid W. Moursund and husband, Will S., of Round Mountain, Texas; grandchildren, Autumn and Albert Moursund, and Fred, Eleanor, and Paul Weltge, of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members, Mary Moursund Reagor and husband, Franklin "Fuzzy"; Lorena, Monte and Ariel Blaylock, Elman Fuchs, Kristen Reagor Smith and daughter, Hadley; and his caregiver guardian angels, Yvonne Belgrave, Stella Corpus and Ana Freeman..

In lieu of flowers, Rev. Weltge would be honored by a donation to a charity that is meaningful to the donor.
