Mrs. Rayburn, 76 Dies Today; Rites Monday-Mrs. H.S. Rayburn, 76, prominent in church affairs and a resident of Newton for 60 years, died at 6:18 o'clock this morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Rayburn was taken to the hospital at 7:30 o'clock Thursday evening after becoming ill.

She took an active interest in church and social activities, belonging to the Christian Workers Society of the congregational Church and the Eastern Star.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon at the Johnson Murdoch Funeral Home. Rev. J. Wesley Pierson, pastor of the Congregational church, will officiate at the services and burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Rayburn is survived by three daughters, Mrs. G.C. (Nellie) Varbel of Lynnville, Mrs. Neil (Elva) Black of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. R.C. (Thyra) Cook of Peoria, Ill.,; a son, Arthur Nolin of Newton; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Bert Turner of Newton and Mrs. Percy Van Epps off Newton; and six brothers, W.W. Bruce, A. P. Bruce, Charles Bruce and John Bruce, all of Newton, and David Bruce of Des Moines and Robert Bruce of Marshalltown.

The daughter of David and Margaret Bruce, Mrs. Rayburn was born at Dunferline, Scotland. She came to America with her parents in 1881, settling first in Irwin Station, Pennsylvania. After residing for two years in Pennsylvania, she, with her parents, moved to Kansas and later moved to Iowa, settling first at Monroe and later in Newton. She was married to Alfred Nolin in 1888 at Monroe and to this union four children were born. Mr. Nolin died in 1911. In 1936, she married H.S. Rayburn in Newton. Mr. Rayburn preceded his wife in death in 1939.

Pallbearers are Glen Bruce, Earl Bruce, Ronald Bruce, Laurence Bruce, Harold Marshall and Haoward Witmer. Interment will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
