Obit-Gonzales Inquirer Dec. 8, 1892

Neville, Dec. 7, 1892
Our community was, last week, suddenly shocked by the visitation of death upon one of our universally respected friends-Mary Louise Eldridge-was born September 13, 1843, and died at 6 0'clock, December 3, 1892. She was the daughter of Major Lee, who won distinction as a veteran in the war pf Texas independence. She was married to her now bereaved husband, S. H. Eldridge, February 21, 1861. She is the mother of one son and six daughters now living. Two children preceded her to the spirit world. She had enjoyed excellent health during the summer until about four weeks ago, she was taken with slow fever. Two weeks ago this was broken up and there was every appearance of rapid recovery. Being greatly reduced, however, in nervous vigor, she was suddenly alarmed and shocked by a cry of one of the children, who had fallen and was slightly hurt. Recovering from this in a few minutes, it was found that sensation was greatly impaired, and there was a partial paralysis of tongue. On slight exertion there were several returns of these symptoms, until at six o'clock Saturday evening, she apparently without pain or struggle, passed away. I have not received from her physician, Dr. Fouts, his opinion of the case, but apprehend that there must have been a lesion of some of the finer blood vessels of the nerves or brain.
She had for some days, a premonition of death, and had fully prepared for the event. The excellent character of her children tells most truly her devotion and excellence of a mother, while the universal sorrow of the entire community gives witness to her amiable and neighborly disposition.

Her funeral was conducted by the writer in the presence of a multitude of friends. The interment was at Harwood by the side of her departed relatives. The memory of her many virtues will long remain among us, and her example in life will be a guide and inspiration to us all.
