Rev. Ned H. Brown, 85, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2009, surrounded by his family at Erwin Health Care.

A native of Erwin, he was the son of Albert Leslie & Myrtle Adkins Brown.

After graduating from Seabreeze (FL) High School, he enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 17, 1943. Rev. Brown honorably served his country in World War II as a B-25 Navigator Bombardier until November 20, 1945. After service, he graduated from Southern Seminary, Nashville in 1955 where he served as Senior Class President. Rev. Brown served in various churches in California and Hawaii until retiring in 1988. While in Honolulu, he was the Chaplain for the Honolulu Police Department. He continued to work performing weddings, as a Minister, and a guest speaker. Rev. Brown also served as the curator at the Heritage Museum in Erwin.

He was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church, the Southern Baptist Convention, and was dedicated to Mission work. A devout believer and a perfect gentleman, his family recalls his very trusting nature, his ability to make people laugh, his intelligence, and his easy-going and extremely kind demeanor; Ned never met a stranger. He was a pilot and he loved to fly. At age 50, he began training to run marathons and competed in five events. He enjoyed his study of the Bible and relaxed while running. Ned was known to be quite a competitor at the Tennessee Senior Games.

Survivors include his loving spouse of 58 years, Mary Brown, Erwin; 2 daughters, a son and their spouses. Jody & Jeff Skipper Alabama; Lee & Theresa Brown, California; Jill & Dwayne Smith, North Carolina and three grandsons, Michael & Daniel Bright; and Brad Skipper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Mullins.
