METROPOLIS, Ill. -- Rebecca M. "Becky" Sommer, age 74, of Metropolis passed away Sept. 27, 2007, at 8:50 a.m. at her home. Becky loved the Lord, loved her family, especially children, and in turn was loved by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Forthman and Rev. Paul McGinnis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Becky is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Sommer; two daughters, Cindy Turner and husband, Randy, of New Columbia, Ill., and Cathy Walker and her husband, Randy, of Mayfield, Ky.; one son, Joseph Sommer of Marion, Ill.; six grandchildren, Aime Parham, Sarah Turner, Joshua Turner, Matthew Sommer, Emily Tirey Landeros and Zachary Sommer; four great-grandchildren, Marcus, Jalen, Micah and Elias; five sisters, Evelyn Anderson of Metropolis, Dorothy Reynolds of Metropolis, Frances Adkins of Wade, N.C., Jane McGinnis and husband, Paul, of Metropolis, and Ruth Troup and husband, Pat, of Davenport, Iowa; one brother, Rev. C.L. Fuqua and wife, Freda, of Marion, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Lottie Sanders Fuqua; one sister, Mary Heffington; and three brothers, Howard, R.B., and Duell Fuqua.
Friends may call at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home, Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, from 6 till 9 p.m. and Sunday at the church from noon till the funeral hour.
Music: Brian Anderson, Patty Hunerkoch, Kathy Hutcherson.
Pallbearers: Clarence Anderson, David McGinnis, Larry Sommer, Duane McGinnis, Frank Sommer and Don Furman.
