Joseph Mohavier, Sr., aged 76 years, and for over half a century a residence of San Antonio, died at 6:15 this morning at the family residence, 701 Palmetto avenue. The funeral will be held from the residence at 5 o'clock tomorrow afternoon and interment will be at City Cemetery No. 3.
Mr. Mohavier was born in Bohian, Germany, in 1833 and came to America with his parents in 1843. The following years the family moved to Texas. Mr. Mohavier served under Captain John S. Ford in the Texas Volunteers in the Indian campaign of 1840-51 and afterward served as a ranger for four years. During this time he witnessed many thrilling scenes and took part in a number of fights.
Besides his widow Mr. Mohavier is survived by seven sons and three daughters. The sons are Levi, Ben, Henry, Joe, Tony, Willie of Houston and Silas. The daughters are Mrs. B. F. Taylor of Austin, Mrs. A. Hanzal and Mrs. F. Pfeiffer of this city.
