DECATUR -- Joseph Lewis "Poppa Joe" Adams, 92, of Decatur passed away at 1:40 P. M. on Friday, February 29, 2008 in his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL, with military graveside rites provided by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Homeward Bound Animal Shelter in Decatur.

Mr. Adams was born on November 20, 1915 in Decatur, IL, the son of Joseph Roy and Leota (Hart) Adams. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and also worked in Maintenance for the Grigolette Company. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Lodge 99, Moose Lodge, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He was a volunteer cook for the KC Hall and the Moose Lodge in Decatur. He married Mary Viscardi on October 10, 1943. She preceded him in death on May 12, 2000.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Harding and husband Bob of Decatur, IL, and JoAnne Niehay and husband John of Decatur; grandchildren, Travis, Alyson, Joshua, Staci, Traci and Todd; great grandchildren, Katie, Jonah, Ava, Michael, Marissa, Mad-dison, Grace, Patrick and Maggie Mae; niece, Peggy Kitch and husband Harlin of Palmyra, MO; nephew, Charlie Tufo of Boston, MA and life-long friend, Richard Heuser of Danbury, CT. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rademacher and Staff and St. John's Hospice for their care and concern. A special thanks to Travis and Ava Alldridge for their companionship with Joe. Poppa Joe had a wonderful life and enjoyed every moment.
