R L Mahan, 79, Buried at R. Chapel

Funeral services were conducted at 3 pm, Wednesday, Sept. 14, from Rhodes Chapel for Richard Lon Mahan, 79, retired farmer of the Thorn community, who died at 5 am, Tuesday, Sept. 13, at The Houston Hospital of a heart ailment.

The Rev. Flenoy Clark officiated. Burial was in Rhodes Chapel Cemetery with Memorial Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Stanley Byars, Jack Wilson, Larry Black, James L Huffman, Melvin Tuberville and Eddie Myors.

Mr. Mahan was a native of Chickasaw county. He was born Nov. 16, 1887, the son of William Willis Mahan and Mary Hardin Mahan. He was a member of Rhodes Chapel Methodist Church.

He leaves six sons, Carl Mahan of Oakland, Calif., Quinton Mahan of Blackburg, S C, James L Mahan of Brookline, N Y, Curtis L Mahan of Bruce, William H Mahan of Vardaman, and Norman Mahan of Memphis; and six daughters, Mrs. Jeanette Black of Houston, Mrs. Lee Esthel of Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. Kathleen Gore of Anderson, Indiana, Mrs. Ruth Brown of Little Rock, Mrs. Robyn Myers of West Point, and Mrs. Jo Ann Bennett of Lake Worth, Fla. A large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.
