D. C. Burge was the youngest of nine surviving children(one child was either still born or died shortly after birth) born to Dewitt Clinton Burge and Ella Octavia Sparks Burge. He was born in Shiloh or Octagon, Marengo County, AL. The family moved to Putnam, AL before 1930. D C lived the rest of his life in Putnam. He was never married.
He worked on the family farm until enlisting in the Navy 14 Mar 1944 and served in the Pacific theater until release date 7 May 1946. He resumed work on the farm and also worked as a plumbers helper and in the timber business cutting pulpwood.
He was survived by one brother,Jasper S. Burge and three sisters, Annie Mae Barrett; Lottie Gladfelter; and Berniece Downey.
