Two young Attala County men were killed when their car left Highway 35 north of Kosciusko early Christmas morning....

The victims were Toby Michael (Mike) Rigby, 18, of the Hesterville area; [and] Charles Terry Jackson, 19, of the New Salem Community. . . .

Rigby and Jackson died in the Christmas morning wreck. . .

The highway patrol said Rigby and Jackson were occupants of Jackson's car when he left Highway 35 and struck a tree south of the Attala-Carroll line.

Officers guessed the wreck occurred about 3:30 a.m. but the wreckage was not discovered until about daybreak. Jackson and Rigby had eaten at a Vaiden restaurant a few minutes after 3.

Officers said they believed a tire blew out on the car.

Jackson worked on an offshore drilling operation near New Orleans. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Jackson of Route 2, West; a sister, Mrs. Linda Vance; grandparents, Mrs. Ellie Jackson of Kosciusko and Mrs. Frank Morgan of McCool; and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Grantham of Ethel.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at Jordan funeral chapel with the Rev. Moss Harper and Dr. Frank Morgan officiating.

Burial was in New Salem Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Ray Douglas, Bill Ellis, Stacy Lindsay, Tommie Joe Johnson, Bernard Ballard and Candwell Bishop.

Rigby was a former student at the MDTA vocational program in Kosciusko.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Penninger of Route 2, West; a sister, Mrs. Wesley Lepard of Kosciusko; and two brothers, Joseph Allen Rigby of Kosciusko and Ricky Wayne Rigby of West.

Services were held at North Union Church Monday with the Rev. Harold Kitchens officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Jordan Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were J.C. Holt, Gene Jenkins, David Jenkins, James Jenkins, Allen Jenkins, Ira Boswell, Howard Ramage and James Ramage.. . .
