Former Avalon Merchant Dies
Robert E. Acheson Once Served as Agricultural Agent of County.

Evansville - Robert E. Acheson,69, widely known in Rock county as the operator of general stores at Magnolia and Avalon, a former supervisor, and through service as one of the count's first agricultural agents, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in his home, 116 Garfield Avenue, Evansville. He had been in failing health for a long time but did not become seriously ill until March 16, his 69th birthday.

Mr. Acheson was born in the town of Magnolia March 16, 1869, the son of David A. and Mary Jane Cochrane Acheson. He spent his early life in Magnolia where he married Effie Setzer on April 10, 1892. They lived on a farm in that township for 10 years and in 1902 Mr. Acheson bought the general store at Magnolia which he conducted for the next 14 years. In 1916 the family moved to Evansville where they resided until 19[?]5, Mr. Acheson being employed for much of that period in the Grange store. It was while residing in Evansville that he served about a year as county agent succeeding L.A. Markham, the first man to hold that office. He also represented Evansville on the county board of supervisors in 1923.

Purchasing the general store at Avalon in 1925, Mr. Acheson moved there and operated the store until about a year ago when he retired from business due to failing health and returned to Evansville.

Mrs. Acheson died Nov. 9. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Max Weymouth, Avalon two grandchildren, Robert and Jane Weymouth; one sister, Mrs. Charles Gibson, Evansville; and two brothers, Edward Acheson, Janesville, and William Acheson, Minneapolis.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Methodist church here, the Rev. Arthur Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the West Magnolia cemetery. Friends may call at the Acheson residence Sunday evening. [newspaper and date unknown]
