Jay William Burns, son of Walter P. and Anna M. Criger Burns, was born on September 1, 1901 on a farm near Hebron, Nebraska
He received his early education in schools at Hebron and Fairbury and then moved to Auburn at the age of thirteen where he was to complete his education.
On August 6, 1924, he was united in marriage to Irma L. Rhinehart at Hiawatha, Kansas. Twelve children were born to this union. Jay was to spend his entire adult life in the Auburn community.
His health became such that he entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home on March 21, 1968. He passed away at the Nemaha County Hospital on August 4, 1979, having reached the age of 77 years.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Irma of Auburn; children: Mrs. William (Leillia) Zeeb of Eldora, Iowa, William Burns of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, James Burns of Lincoln, Melvin Burns of Lincoln, Calvin and Charles Burns of Omaha, Mrs. Wayne (Mary) Maake of Phoenix, Arizona, Verda Panning of Auburn and Betty Harms of Norfolk: grandchildren and great-grand-children; nieces and nephews; other relatives, and friends.
