Helen Elizabeth (Chambers) Hensley, 98, of Huntington, WV, died Monday, September 23, 2013, at Woodlands Retirement Community. She was born May 2, 1915 in Huntington, a daughter of the late James and Edna Hardman Chambers.
She was also preceded by
her husband, E.J. (Bud) Hensley;
two sisters, Mabelle Chambers Slicer and Alice Chambers Welch;
a brother, James A. Chambers Jr.
She retired from Gallaher Elementary School where she taught 3rd grade for 34 years. She was a graduate of Marshall University, member of Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority, Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the E. T. Jones Bible Class, Martha Circle and Woman's Society. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Huntington since 1939 and was made a Golden Life Member in 1989. She was a life member of the Retired Teachers Association, WV Association of Retired School Employees, former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society. She was named WSAZ's Home Town Hero.
She is survived by
nephews, James W. Slicer, Robert M. Slicer, Edwin Welch and Ray Turley;
nieces, Carol Lee (Frank) Julian and Sue Ann Ogden;
numerous Great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary with the Rev. Jack Lipphardt officiating. Interment in Woodmere Memorial Park.
