Joyce was born on Jan. 3, 1927, in Villa Grove to Andrew and Lotus (Fender) Chambers. She was the seventh child of a family of eight children. They were Basil, Ray, Elva, Pete, Andy Jr., Les, and Dottie. All preceded her in death except her sister, Dottie.
Joyce lived most of her life in Villa Grove, attending both Villa Grove Elementary School and Villa Grove High School. She also attended a business school in Champaign.
Joyce and Everett Cassida were married in 1948 and lived briefly in Decatur. They moved to Villa Grove and operated a car repair and gas station and later a convenience store. Joyce always appreciated visits from her friends and customers. She could always be counted on to help people in need.
She was an active member of the Villa Grove Baptist Church, singing in the choir, and later became a trustee. She served as an adviser of the Rainbow Girls for a number of years and made several trips with them to Chicago.
Joyce's husband, Everett, preceded her in death.
Joyce leaves a loving and caring daughter, Linda Cassida and son-in-law Gary Melton, who live in Tuscola, and her sister, Dottie Goodwin and brother-in-law, Tom, who live in California.
She will be missed by the many people who knew her and by the many whose lives she touched.
"But the summer days have come and gone and the winter winds blow chill. Not everything turns out just right according to man's will."
"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
