He was born Sept. 12, 1919 in Clinton County, Il. to Fred W. and Amanda Steffen Beckemeyer. He married Geneva Scott on Nov. 20, 1940. She preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 1968. He married Ruth Knoll on March 1, 1969. She died on Nov. 25, 2008.
He is survived by a son, Gaylon (Shelia) Beckemeyer, Grand Rapids, Michigan; a daughter, Darla (Del) Cassidy, Glassboro, N.J.; a stepdaughter, Dixie (Richard) Haberkorn, Chatsworth; two stepsons, Ronald L. (Mary Ann) Knoll, Pontiac, and James F. Knoll, Clewiston, Florida; four grandchildren, Heidi (Paul) Hendricks, Meggie Beckemeyer, Heather (John) Dobson and Kyle Cassidy; three great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Loretta (Elmer "Bud") Dorries; a brother, Robert Beckemeyer and friend Shirley Jondro and two sisters-in-law, Jo Agnes Beckemeyer and Ruby Beckemeyer, all of Carlyle.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Glennon S. Beckemeyer; a stepgrandson, Matthew Haberkorn; four brothers, Calvin Beckemeyer and wife Marilyn; Clinton Beckemeyer and wife Mary Ann; Alvin Beckemeyer and Wayne Beckemeyer; a sister-in-law, Wilma Beckemeyer and his stepmother, Kathryn Conrad Beckemeyer.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
