John Wesley ANDERSON was born 15 Feb 1857, Miracle Run, Battelle District, Monongalia, VA (now WV), the son of Robert ANDERSON (1814-1864) and Sarah TEMPLE (1821-1872).

On 4 Dec 1883, John received a Homestead Patent is for NW4 SW4 Sec 12 & N2 SE4 SW4 SE4 Sec 11 T7S, R18W in Rooks County.

John married Maude Eugenia THORN on 31 Jan 1884, and in the spring of 1889 moved his family to Webster, Rooks, KS. John was a stockman, bank backer, and merchant, and his general store in Webster was a local landmark for many years.

The following appeared in the Rooks County Record on April 4, 1902:

"J.W. Anderson has opened a handsome up-to-date general store in Webster, and in another column of this paper, solicits the business of that section. Mr. Anderson is one of the solid men of Rooks County, having made a success of everything he has undertaken, and without doubt, his establishment will draw a good deal of trade to Webster." John W. operated the store for 14 years and had a reputation for always being mindful of those less fortunate than he."
