Mayflower descendant of six or more passengers via his father's paternal grandmother, Virginia LaFayette (Davis) Gray (1834ME-1886AR) whoae husband was a Confederate officer with his father's maternal grandfather in Union army during Civil War, and at least two ancestors Revolutiionary war veterans Heinrich Staring (1730-1808) and Rev Robert Gray (1761-1822).

"Speed Gray was born January 6, 1914, in St. Louis, Mo. He has also lived in Springfield, Kansas City, Charleston, Atlanta, Washington, Omaha, Chicago, St. Paul, Sioux Falls, Sioux City, Baltimore, and Glen Ellyn. He is the son of Carl Raymond Gray, Jr. and Gladys Evans Beach. His father, who graduated from the University of Illinois, is vice-president and general manager of the C. St. P. M. and O. Railroad. He has one sister. Among his relatives who attended Princeton is Howard Kramer Gray ' 23. He prepared at Glenbard High School, and Lawrenceville, where he was on the Basketball, Track, and Football Teams, and Program Committee. At Princeton he majored in Chemistry. He was a member of the Elm Club. During Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years he roomed at 223 Lockhart, with Monford Custer.

"Gray left college in December of Junior year, and is at present manager of the Wilson Transportation Company, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He married Miss Dorothy Anne Winter on August 30, 1934, and they have a small daughter. Gray is a Presbyterian and a Republican.

"His permanent address is 4501 Country Club Blvd., Sioux City, Iowa."
