David Bibler--Jackson Township Pioneer

Article from the weekly column of Florence Blackford,

Published in the Morning Republican, Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio 1890-1900

David Bibler was born in 1819; his father and mother, Abraham and Elizabeth Stuter Bibler, were emigrants from Shenandoah County, VA. They came from Fairfield County, OH on December 24, 1834, buying land in section 17 of Jackson Township.

On August 17, 1840, Mr. Bibler married Elizabeth Orwick and their children include: Joseph E., John L., and L.H. Bibler who reside in the county, and William A. Bibler of Jay County, Indiana and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Rudolph.

Mr. Bibler had a twin brother, named after his father, Abraham, who died in the cholera epidemic. Another brother, John Bibler had three children who are also living in the county: B.G. and D.A. Bibler and Mrs. Delia Smith, the widow of Henry Smith of Eagle township.

When Mr. Bibler first came to this county he made his home with his cousin and then with his brother-in-law, William Newell. There were but seven families residing in Jackson township at that time. Mr. Bibler remembers Alpheus Ralston, Levi Williamson, John Peterman, Mordcai Hammond, Michael Messamore, Henry Treece, and Aquilla Gilbert. The last three were taken into Amanda township when Wyandot county was organized. Peter George was the first to enter Jackson Township, but later resided in Delaware township. Mordecai Hammond settled on the land that George owned.

The Abraham Bibler family consisted of three sons and six daughters and resided with the Newell family till a log cabin could be built. In 1840 on the marriage of David Bibler, his father gave him a tract of land in section 21, where he has resided since. Mr. Bibler has been on the membership list of the First Baptist Church of Hancock county since 1849.
