Funeral services for J.B. Woodcock, 27, resident of Tennessee Colony who was killed in an accident Thursday, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hassell and Foster Chapel in Palestine with Bro. Archie Waldrum of Palestine officiating. Interment was at Bethel Cemetery in Anderson County.
Mr. Woodcock was killed while investigating the cause of mechanical failure of a baler on the Sherwood-Cook farm six miles north-west of Tennessee Colony. As the baler was being turned to determine the cause of the mechanical failure, the plunger caught him, crushing his head.
Mr. Woodcock joined the Navy in October of 1940 and served in both the European and Asiatic theatres. He received his discharge in 1946.
After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for the Seaboard Railway Company in Savannah, Georgia. He moved to Tennessee Colony this spring.
Survivors include: his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Woodcock of Stakesboro, Georgia; one son, Michael; one daughter, Dorothy Ann; a brother, Billy Gordon Woodcock of Savannah, Georgia; a sister Mrs. Carl Boyd of Savannah, Georgia; and his grandfather, Adam Woodcock of Stakesboro, Georgia.
Pallbearers were Therel Rampy, Homer Rampy, Ansley McMahon, Fred Godley, Sam McMahon and George Hopkins, all of Cayuga and Tennessee Colony.
