J. J. born October 22, 1875 in Johnson county, Texas, and Mary Ann "Mollie" Fuller, born February 10, 1881 in Cameron, Milam County, Texas, were married December 12, 1897 in Caradan, Texas. After their marriage, they lived in Dunn and Brownfield, Texas until they moved to Estancia, New Mexic.
In November, 1924, after a four day trip in wagons, two covered for living quarters and two for supplies, they arrived in Bailey County from Estancia. Five of their eight children, D. B. Lessie, Helene, Lena and J. B. came with them. Their daughter Mae joined them by train from Snyder, Texas. A few months later they moved in wagons to Kansas, Oklahoma. Early in 1928 they returned to Muleshoe to farm in the YL Community. Two years later they moved to Parker County, Texas, only to decide Bailey County was home, thus returning in the late 1930s.
John and Mary Ann purchased a half section of land in Parmer County, but continued living in Bailey County near their children, D. B., Mae and Helene, until their deaths: Mary Ann, November 27, 1941 and John, June 21, 1945; both buried in Muleshoe Cemetery.
John and Mary Ann's children were:
John Edward born May 30, 1899. He married Ethel Norwood December 19, 1920. They had two sons, Earl and Gearl. John Edward died November 24, 1925 and is buried at Dunn, Texas. Ethel lives in Abilene, Texas.
Jessie Ollie, born February 19, 1901. He married Mattie Weatherford May 28, 1927. They had no children. Mattie died January 14, 1974. Jessie Ollie died July 17, 1974. Both are buried at Alexandria, Louisiana.
D.B. (Durward Belmont) born January 11, 1903. He married Mildred Wilterding April 3, 1929. They reside in the YL Community and have four children, Marshal, Norman, Irene, and Glenn.
Minnie Mae, born August 27, 1905. She married Mervin Wilterding December 12, 1925. They raised four children, Lona, Reece, Maurine and Lucila. Mervin died August 30, 1972 and is buried in Bailey County Memorial Park. Mae lives in Muleshoe.
Lessie Ellen, born October 27, 1908. She married W.P. "Powell" Jones February 18, 1929. They had two children, Marianne and Jimmie. Powell died February 10, 1965 and is buried at Alexandria, Louisiana. Lessie resides in Boyce, Louisiana.
Helene Viola, born September 29, 1910. She married Virgil Teague March 20, 1938. They had four children: Durwood, Dwayne, Lajuana and Roy. Virgil died January 26, 1988 and is buried in Farwell Cemetery, Green Forest, Arkansas. Helen resides in Green Forest.
Lena Elva, born October 11, 1914. She married Harold "Tode" Hamblin November 7, 1931. They had two children, Glenna Mae and Harold. Tode died May 4, 1952 and is buried in Oxnard, California. In 1954 Lena married Russell "Red" Campbell. They lived in Oxnard, California.
J.B. born March 21, 1920. He married Maxine Miller February 8, 1944. They had two children, Johnny and Judy. They divorced. In 1963 J.B. married Betty Barnard. J. B. died December 11, 1982 and is buried in Zapato, Texas. Betty lives in Zapato.
John was a farmer and carpenter. After the death of his wife in 1941, John and his youngest son J.B. continued living in the YLB Community with his daughter Mae and her family. J.B. farmed with his father until he entered the United States Air Force. As a pilot, he flew the "Burma Hump" many times during WWII.
The Heads always had music in their home--an organ or piano and singing. John was a good singer, attended music schools and constantly stressed correct timing. The heads were faithful Methodists, always working in the Sunday School Department and worship service with John directing the singing. (Submitted by Mae Head Wilterding, Maurine Wilterding Hooten)
