Fred D. Goodwin

Fred D. Goodwin, 59, died Thursday at his home, 1325 W. Main St., Salem.

He was the owner and operator of Goodwin's Motel.

Last year he was treasurer of the Roanoke Valley Tourist Court Association. He also has been active in the Virginia Travel Counsel and several years ago held a regional office in the national motel association.

Before establishing his present business, Goodwin was the owner of Andrew Lewis Tavern in Salem and Tiny Town Tourist Court at Natural Bridge.

Many years ago he was a Salem barber.

He is a long time member of Salem Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Christine J. Goodwin; a son, James E. Goodwin, Salem; a daughter, Mrs. F. M. (Jim) Gentry, Salem; two brothers, R. C. Goodwin, Salem, and B. C. Goodwin, Radford; two Sisters, Mrs. Lillian Ashford, Salem, and Mrs. Walter M. Gerring, Asheboro, N.c., and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem by Dr. R. P. Downey. Entombment will be at Sherwood Abbey.

Pallbearers will be W. C. Litrell, Edward G. Craig, Carl Givens, A. A. Woodson, R. L. Overstreet and C. E. Webber.
