James Eldon Moore, 78, of Burleson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov, 18, 2009.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home.
James was a lifelong Burleson resident. He was born Nov. 14, 1931, in Burleson and was the son of Clarence Eldon and Hazel Wicker Moore, who preceded him in death. He attended Burleson public schools. On Sept. 20, 1949, he married Vera Mae Jewett, also of Burleson. The couple had two daughters, Sheila and Phillis, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
James was a local rancher and owned his own business, Moore Ditching Service, for 35-plus years. He was a longtime member of Alvarado Assembly of God. James loved spending time with family, working, shopping at flea markets and antique auctions.
Survivors: Loving wife, Vera Mae Moore of Burleson; daughters, Sheila Purdy and husband, Dan Tartaglia, of Fort Worth and Phillis Whitney McTaggart and husband, Guy, of Burleson; brother, Billy Joe Moore and wife, JoAnne, of Burleson; sisters, Lois Marie Burke and husband, Lee, of Troy, Melba Louise Jewett and husband, David, of Lampasas and Betty Janice Johnson and husband, Jimmy, of Burleson; grandchildren, Bryan Wayne Whitney and wife, Trina, of Burleson and Brandon Wayne Whitney and wife, Leah, of Burleson; great-grandchilden, Tanner, Rylee, Kane and Kendall Whitney, all of Burleson; and numerous extended family and friends.
