MOUNTAIN CITY – Doran Ethridge Shupe, age 93, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at his residence.

He was born on July 14, 1916, in Johnson County, Tennessee, to the late Charlie and Ethie Lowe Shupe.

In addition to his parents, Doran was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Vivian Shupe, who passed away on October 27, 2004; four sisters: Flora Payne, Jean Stanley, Opal Neathercutt and Vivian Stewart; and three brothers: Dwight Shupe, Aubrey Shupe and Kenneth Shupe.

Doran was a 1937 graduate of Johnson County High School, where he enjoyed playing football. He worked at the family mill for many years, was a former carpenter, grew mushrooms in his own hot house, was a former school bus driver for the Johnson County School System and was a retired from Leco/Levi Strauss, where he was a truck driver.

Doran was an avid sports fan and assisted at the Johnson County High School football games for 18 years carrying the down marker. Doran also enjoyed telling good jokes to his family and friends.

Doran became a member of First Baptist Church in the 1940s and gave many years of service to the church and served as deacon for over 40 years.

Doran is survived by one daughter, Pamela Johnson, of Kingsport, Tennessee; one son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Tina Shupe, of Lilburn, Georgia; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Pauline Dancy, of Mountain City, Tennessee, and Shirley Ward and husband, John, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Kate Shupe, of Mountain City, Tennessee; grandchildren: Holly Malave, April Johnson, Micah Johnson, Marie Rainey, Jessica Earl, Haley Shupe and Michelle Kent; great grandchildren, Layna Malave, Nora Malave and Will Rainey; several nieces and nephews and many, many wonderful friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Mountain City Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, from the First Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Campbell, Rev. Norm Reece and Rev. Harry Wills to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Tim Stanley and the First Baptist Church Choir.

Graveside Service and Interment will follow from the Phillippi Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Ray Payne, John Payne, Bart Fritts, James Lefler, Randy Stewart, Pat Greene and Bill Adams. Honorary Pallbearers are: Deacons and Men of First Baptist Church.
