Irene L. Shupe, 87, of Vandergrift, formerly of Apollo, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009. She was born July 24, 1922, in Kepple Hill, Armstrong County, a daughter of the late Victor and Norma (Anderson) Stephenson. She lived in Apollo most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Apollo United Presbyterian Church, Apollo, past Sunday School teacher of the church, past member of the Apollo VFD No. 3 Ladies Auxiliary and she enjoyed bowling and crafts. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth F. Shupe Sr., in 1982; son-in-law, Orville Crawford; and six brothers, Doyle, Cecil, Dale, Homer, Darryl and Ronald Stephenson. She is survived by her children, Karen L. (Butch) Garren, of Lusby, Md., Kenneth F. Shupe Jr., of North Apollo, Diane Crawford, of Vandergrift, Richard (Linda) Shupe, of Vandergrift, and Kim (Ray) Bruner, of Salina; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Glen (Betty) Stephenson and Edgar (Belle) Stephenson, both of Vandergrift. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME, Apollo, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Lea Austin and the Rev. Kathy Taylor officiating. Burial in South Bend Cemetery, South Bend Township.
