Dr Madison Travis Collins


UTICA Dr. Madison Travis Collins died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in Atlanta. He was 62.

Dr. Collins was a native of Utica. He graduated from Mississippi State University, where he was a member of the baseball team, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Zeta. He was life secretary of the MSU Class of 1961.

Dr. Collins graduated from Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine and had been a large-animal veterinarian in the Atlanta area for more than 35 years.

He was past president of the Georgia Equine Practitioners Association. He was involved in horse shows and auctions and led the Stone Mountain Wildlife Trail and the Atlanta and National Park Service police horse veterinary programs.

Dr. Collins was a commissioned officer in the Army and a Green Beret in the 81st Airborne. He served in southeast Asia and retired as a colonel in the Army Reserve. He was a master rigger and parachutist and a champion marksman on the U.S. Army pistol team.

Dr. Collins was a lifelong member of Utica Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Edward Jr. and Nell Travis Collins.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Edwina Rodgers Collins; a son, Jason Travis Collins of Lilburn, Ga.; one sister, Dr. Mary Collins Landin of Utica; two brothers, Lt. Col. Thomas E. Collins III of Lauderdale and Everette H. Collins of Houma, La.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were this morning at First Baptist Church in Lafayette, Ala., and will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Utica Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Utica. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
