JASON W. POPE
LENOIR - Jason Wayne Pope, 20, of Bloomfield Drive, Granite Falls, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 21, 2005.
He was born Dec. 28, 1984, in Catawba County, to Cecil Wayne and Corinne Escalle Pope of Granite Falls.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William McKinley and Lucy Pope.
Jason was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He was his dad's best friend and just grand. He loved the Lord and life itself.
He attended South Caldwell High School, where he was a member of FFA and Masonry and was presently employed with Broyhill Plant No. 3. Jason was a member of Cajah's Mountain Baptist Church, where he was an R.A. and member of the choir. He enjoyed mission trips to Oklahoma, Miss., and New Manna Youth Camp at Lake James. He loved rodeo, softball and all sports. He was an avid outdoorsman that included hunting, fishing and being a member of "Bass Masters for Christ."
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer "Jin" Pope Young and Josh Young of Granite Falls; maternal grandparents, Victor Escalle and Margaret Blevins of Hudson; two nephews, Jeremiah and Lane Young of Granite Falls; one niece, Finlee Young of Granite Falls; and his girl friend, Emily Decker of Hildebran.
A Celebration of Life will be held today, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Cajah's Mountain Baptist Church, and will be conducted by the Revs. Doug Woodie, Gene Gouge and Richard Yount.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Cajah's Mountain Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brooks Wilson, Chris Decker Jr., Jason Yount, Kirk Odom, Dustin Williams, Al Dean Taylor, Chad Coffey, Richard Bowman, Dustin Askew and Bruce Taylor Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cody South and the youth boys of Cajah's Mountain Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cajah's Mountain Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2145 Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, N.C. 28645.
Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
