Albert Lufkin Hunt, 84, died July 30, 2007 in the Strawberry, Ariz. home in which he was born, surrounded by family. He was born Feb. 3, 1923 to Frank Elroy Hunt and Donnetta Lufkin Hunt.
He served his country in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He married Mary on April 20, 1944 in the Mesa, Ariz. temple. After the war, he was employed as a mailman in Mesa. Later, he managed a ranch in Cave Creek, Ariz. He returned to his pioneer roots at the Cup and Saucer Ranch in Strawberry in 1957, where he and Mary raised their family in the ranching traditions he knew as a boy.
He was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully as the bishop of the Pine Ward for 10 years and held many other callings throughout his life. Lufkin was instrumental in the building of the present chapel in Pine as the committee chairman. Even though he was not called to be a missionary because of WWII, he was always actively involved in the church missionary program. He was an active community leader, serving on the Pine School Board, National Resource Conservative District and served many other areas.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Louise Schneider, his children Sharilyn (Lee) Halsey of California, Linda (Pete) Matthews of Idaho, Albert (Charlene) Hunt, Margaret (Wade) Parker, Barbie (Joseph, deceased) McRae, all of Strawberry and Holly (Darrin) Kuhn of Phoenix, 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, daughter Louise, sons-in-law, Joseph McRae and Clint Wingfield and granddaughters Crete and April.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is loved and missed by all.
A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pine, in the Relief Society Room. The service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pine, in the Chapel.
