Kelly was the son of Moody Milas and Mary Lizzie (Waters) Newman. Kelly was a 1938 graduate of Abilene Christian University (College).
He married Louise Moser on July 19, 1939, in Oklahoma City. She preceded him in death on October 22, 1979. He married Iona Lafferty on August 4, 1980 in Breckenridge.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a retired Aircraft Salesman and Pilot in Plainview. He moved to Graham in 1984 from Plainview and was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ.
Survivors at time of death included his wife, Iona C. Newman of Graham; one son, Kelly C. Newman of Hurst and one daughter, Nita Newman of Valley Mills.
He was preceded in death by seven sisters and four brothers.
